Getting started with audiobooks!
We listen to a LOT of audiobooks in our homeschool and they’re one of my favourite resources. Did you know that if you have a library card you have access to an online lending library? Check out the Overdrive and Libby app on your mobile device. Sign up and enjoy borrowing books and audiobooks for free! It’s always fun when our loans come through. Last month we listened to our loan twice in the two week loan period – have you seen the Rise of the Guardians movie? There’s a series of books by William Joyce that go with it and they’re downright magical and exciting. Stuart reads to the girls at bedtime every night and said he loved the books so much he would have even read them without the kids. Anyway, we borrowed the first book Nicholas St. North and the Battle of the Nightmare King TWICE during our loan period. Then bought the second audiobook with our audible credit. So good!
Subscribe to Audible
Along with the free online library we use Audible. For $15 a month we get one monthly credit and a discount on any other books we purchase. It’s our only actual recurring homeschool expense and the girls love it. We listen to books almost every day, on roadtrips, and at bed time (hello, Beatrix Potter.)
Our audiobook favorites
The Boxcar Children
Little House on The Prairie
The Princess Bride
The Neverending Story
Island of the Blue Dolphins
Howl’s Moving Castle
