Lettering Club

A couple of Christmasses ago an old blogging buddy who is also a calligraphy master posted a video on instagram of her addressing Christmas card envelopes. One of the envelopes she addressed was ALMOST my address, like so close that it kinda spooked me! I messaged her and she told me I needed to follow a couple of friends of hers that are pretty much my neighbours. So I did. Then a couple of months later one posted on instagram that she needed help videoing her painting a hand-lettered sign. I introduced myself and offered my services ie. I had a tripod, camera, and a couple of hours to spare.

Since that fateful day I’ve pretty much seen Hayley every month. She runs our local Utah Valley Lettering Club which meets up one Thursday a month at a local eatery – currently The Wash in Provo.

Lettering Club has been a bit of a life saver for me. It’s amazing the impact that spending a couple of hours with other creatives makes – even when Lettering is not your skill! I’m mostly there to selfishly soak in their vibe and observe their magic. And they let me!

If you’re looking for a new skill for 2020 go find your local lettering club. If you’re local to me there’s a club in Salt Lake and one in Provo – they’re free, super chill, and the people are top notch. Getting involved in your community like this can do nothing but benefit you.

If you’re a small business owner and looking for the same kind of interaction check out your local The Rising Tide Society, Tuesdays Together chapters – they’re all over the world.

If you’re involved in the creative community I’d love to hear how! Leave me a comment.

  1. HOORAY FOR LETTERING CLUB! I’m so lucky to know you and I’m so grateful for all the other meaningful relationships that have come from lettering club. It’s the people who make it what it is 🙂

    Amen!
Lettering club is such a needed outlet for me – I relish being able to hang out with my lettering friends and pretend I’m getting work done (:
